I. SAFETY

A. The boat must be equiped with safety switch(s). When in the "safe" position, the switch(s) will allow no gas to pass to the firing valves and / or firing solenoids. When in the "safe" position, all gas shall be vented from the 'low pressure' side to ensure the guns are inoperable in safe mode. The switch(s) must be kept in the safe position at all times when the boat is not in the water or not in the designated test firing area. The switch shall be clearly marked ' GAS ON ' ' GAS OFF '.

B. No positive elevation is allowed. The maximum elevation of a firing bb cannon shall be no higher then level with the horizon.

C. The wearing of safety glasses with side shields is required by all participants and spectators when in the marked pit area, when battling, and when observing combat events. A safety penalty will be assigned to captains in violation.

E. If anyone enters the water to recover a ship, all firing of cannons (both by ships on the water and on shore) will cease and all ship motion will stop (unless allowed by the Contest Director) until that person is again on shore.

F. The following rules shall apply to the use of compressed gas:

  1. All compressed gas tanks used on-board ships and as land-based storage containers must be commercially manufactured and certified for use with said compressed gas and may not be modified in any manner.

  2. All compressed gas systems in the ships must have a manufactured pressure regulator set to no more than 120 psi.

  3. All refillablecompressed gas systems must have a manufactured pressure relief valve (eg. rupture disk or equivalent) located somewhere on the high-pressure side.

  4. All compressed gas systems must have a 10/32 threaded hole on the low-pressure side that allows the Contest Director to measure the pressure being delivered to the cannons.

  5. Only compressed gas approved for use by the club may be used.

  6. Approved compressed gases are CO2 and AIR.

  7. The Construction Officer, Contest Director, or a person appointed by the Contest Director, is responsible for certifying that all compressed gas systems adhere to the construction rules. Systems that are in violation may not be used during the event unless they can be made to conform to the rules. A safety penalty will be assessed to the Captain in violation..
