Two NZBG members, Art and Stu traveled to
Hamilton on Sunday February 3rd 2002 to meet up with some scale model
boaters. Lunch was kindly supplied be Raynor Johnston (thanks Raynor).
The USS Artemis poses along side a USS Missouri which
is also in 1/96 scale.
The encouraging thing here is that the main guns are at
approximately deck height of the Artemis. Hopefully any shots from a
battleship will penetrate the hull, not mess up the Superstructure.
All the fittings are by John Haynes and it was built up on a
Scale shipyard hull.
The hull is nice and fare. You can see some of the 28kg
(62lbs) of lead needed for ballast on the grass near the stern.
It was a very hot day and the dark decks didn't take too
kindly to the sun and began warping
Running at about half speed.
Plenty of room in there. The 4 drive motors are air
conditioning fan motors from a Honda Civic
A 1/100 scale HMS Warspite being lifted into the water.
Stu talked to one of the builders of the ship. He
contemplated building it as a battling ship when construction was started
some years ago. We wish we could have got in contact with him then. A
fully armed Queen Elizabeth class ship can be armed with 8 x 1/4"
mains in 4 twin turrets and 14 bbs as secondaries.
The Warspite on the water shwing the size difference with
the Gearing.

An LCT (landing craft tank - scale unknown) hits the beach,
and throws its ramp down
The onboard R/C tank then rolls off.
Dick Hopper's HMNZS Taranaki graces the water for the first
time.
A Gato? class sub gets some shore work done on it.
